Loved this clear-eyed beauty, a female ruby-throated hummingbird. I visit The Dawes often, and it always seems to go the same way. At first, the hummingbirds are very mistrustful and will do everything to spoil a clear capture. But then one will fly in and perch and seem to look intensely upon me, eye to eye, after which she seems comfortable with my presence. Takes me about an hour to establish this trust.

I think Queen Anne’s lace is a pretty odd looking plant, particularly when still in it’s “bird nest” phase. When seen up close, the complex and intricate clustered pattern is pretty cool. I understand they are related to carrots.
