I hope he has permission. I’m pretty sure he is hunting… and just might be trespassing also.
Bull American Bison
Majestic animal! The male is identifiable by the huge muscle on his upper shoulders, used to spar with other bulls and in order to “plow” deep snow, clearing way for the frozen grasses underneath. Unfortunately, I got a little too close for comfort and seconds later he decided to charge. Fortunately, he allowed me to duck away without injury. Whew!
Badlands Horses
Another shot of my encounter with a group of wild horses in the Badlands of North Dakota. Rugged beauties!
Wild Mustangs
These horses run wild through Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. For this particular encounter, I was lucky enough to track them down along a back-trail and was honored with a nice long visit.
Yellow Skies
Ever seen storm clouds turn yellow? This sky was rapidly evolving.
Red Skies, Three Silos
Grain silos against a dramatic red cloud gathering storm.
Self Portrait During Rainbow Storm
Interesting (and happy) timing on a cross-Plains drive through the Dakotas. A storm was passing through just prior to sunset. Sunny skies behind me cast my long shadow while storm clouds were overhead, The rainbow was a bonus. Surreal moment
Muddy!
This buffalo allowed me to get pretty close which captured its perfectly muddied face
Baby American Bison
A young American Bison stays close to mom while they enjoy the bounty of the Dakota grasslands
