Eastern Towhee

Beautiful but often frustrating bird, the eastern towhee is often out and about on the hiking trails, scratching on the ground for food, often hidden in brush or bushes. They will make a single loud whistle as if to say, “Hey you, come over hear and look at me” while staying hidden all the while. On the rare occasions (like this one) when they do emerge their beautiful markings and colorization are so striking. The beautiful deep red eye is just a bonus.
